Fake VS Real News...

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, in Power To People. (A subject - Hurumanu 6 -  that we have at school), I have currently finished my second individual activity and it is called 'Fake Vs Real News'. I picked this once because it looked very interesting. When we finish doing our individual activity we have to blog about what we have learned and our finished work. So now I will be telling you what I have learned. Enjoy!

What is fake news?

They are made up information that is meant to be share to shock or scare people around the world. The purpose of it is to persuade people to think a certain way of something or someone, sometimes it is to make money for advertising, known as Clickbait.



How to find out something is real:

R: Ask - Is this real?
E: Evidence - What's the source? Author, Publication, Web Address, Date & Time, Including Pictures.
A: Add it All up - Ask around, use own knowledge, other's knowledge, the story detail and a little research.
L: Look Around - Any other sources.

  1. People who encourage/are fans of the Pope will trust what the Pope’s opinion is and then they will also support Donald Trump. Because the Pope is an important person others will trust his opinion. 
  2. This is fake, this story was originally published by WTO 5 news and after the news was found out they said that most news on their website is fake.

・Activity: Proving our story is real


As I lined up for my class, our teacher, Mr Mitchell, arrived a bit later than usual. Once he approached us, with a sheet of paper in hand, he unlocked the door and let us in. We all sat down at our tables and waited for the roll call. Rather than opening his Ipad to take the roll, he waited for us to settle before starting his announcement. “Yesterday at around 8:30 pm, there was an attack under the tunnel from Kyle Park. A student, who will remain anonymous, has been reported missing on their way to the Hub after school at around 3:10 pm.” Students gasped and gossiped with other students about it. My friends and I were all very shocked, but luckily we forgot it and focused on our classes. The next day, barriers were put around the tunnel and police cars surrounded the park. When Mr Mitchell arrived he quickly ushered us in and told us about the news “Now this is very important, please listen up! This morning the body of the student who went missing has just been found and it looks like it had been abducted. Please be careful while going through Kyle Park.” My friends and I gasped, we were very scared. ~Time Skip~ It was finally home time, I wished my friends luck as I didn’t want them to get kidnapped. But luckily the next day we didn’t receive and news, it was the same as the following days.



BREAKING NEWS
In this activity, we had to create a story about something that we have heard around our community or school. My friend made a story about something she had seen when she went to McDonald's.


It has just been reported that 3 year 10’s were seen in McDonald’s flirting with a year 9 boy. Now the interesting scoop about this, is that the year 9 is in a relationship. We do forbid anyone from doing that, but please be careful around people.

Activity: Same but different 
In this activity, we had to think of a story that we have heard recently that we believe is true. After that, we had to find the story on different sources and compare them. How do the stories differ? What parts of the story are the same?

All of these sites have similar information, that informs us what they have found out and how they found that of information. Some articles were posted earlier than the other ones. The pictures on the articles all display something about dinosaurs and the temperature of the eggs. The stories do not differ from the others, but some articles are missing information that other articles have.

The Fosbury Flop

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. In P.E we learned about the high jump and how to do the Fosbury Flop. We had to copy down the steps to do the Fosbury Flop, hope you learn something!

•Fosbury Flop•
  1. Land with your arms and feet up, on your back.
  2. When you take off it should be on 1 foot.
  3. When you leave the ground you must spin around (use the knee to run).

What is the Whare Tapa Wha?

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today in Health we learned more about the Whare Tapa Wha and how our well being (Hauora) is doing. I hope you learn something and enjoy reading my post!

What is the Whare Tapa Wha?

It is the four walls of Hauora, they are interconnected and if one of the walls collapse of isn't doing well all four walls wouldn't be able to work as well. To sum it up it is the house of health, called the Whare Tapa Wha.

How did I participate in this lesson?

I participated well and contributed by finishing my work and listing down how well my well being is. Next time I will try to make my work better.

What is the current state of my Hauora?

My Hauora is well, all are stable, but I know I need to work off my Taha Whānau.

This is the work I did. It was listing down all the things that I do to help my well being.

What do I see in the mirror?

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. Today in class, we learned about poetry and we had to do an activity where we wrote a poem. The title of the poem was 'Look in the mirror and what do I see?'.
