My favourite animal

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. In ESOL we had to create a blog post describing our favourite animal, singer or actor. I chose to do an animal because animals are amazing.

They have a potato-shaped body with fluffy fur.
They have loud voices that can be heard from afar.
They are useful creatures that can provide us with warmth.
They are cute animals.

That's all for today! Please stay safe, remain indoors and wash your hands often. Have a great day!

Forms of money!

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. Today in Business Studies we learned about the origins of money and how it improved. We had been given a task where we had to research up 3 forms of money. One from Ancient HIstory, one from the 20th century, one from the 21st century and our idea.

Ancient History currency: Mesopotamia Shekel

The shekel is an ancient type of currency which was first used in Mesopotamia. It was used in 650 and 600 B.C in Asia. It was mostly used in the western regions of Asia. Semitic peoples, Moabites, Edomites and Phoenicians were people who used the shekel at that time.

Some advantages of this money are that it is unique and a good representation of money in Ancient times. I don't think there are many disadvantages to having this money because it was still very early.

Fact: The image you see is a silver bar Kochba shekel from Simon bar Kokhba's revolt against the Roman Rule.

20th Century currency: Charge-it

/Story-Behind-The-Credit-Cards-Invention/
The charge-it card is the first-ever credit card made, it was made by John Biggins. How did it work? Biggins Bank would pay participating merchants for their services, and it would assume responsibility by collecting debt from charg-it holders.  If cardholders experienced identity theft, friendly fraud (which means requesting a chargeback after purchasing goods.) or if merchants transaction records did not match the compensation from the bank. The charge-it card was established in 1946 - 20th Century.

Some advantages of having this type of way to pay are that it is more convenient and easy to work with.

21st Century: Bitcoin

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency established on the 9th of January 2009. Bitcoins were created as a reward for a process known as mining, you can use bitcoin to exchange for other currencies, products and services. Some advantages of having this money are that it's more portable you can travel anywhere and exchange money for that. Some disadvantages of having this money are that you can be exposed to scams and fraud.

Benefits and Disadvantages for having money

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today in business studies we have currently started to learn about Money. We learned about how money works, how it is protected and what it is used for. After that, we had a choice to do one of the tasks. I chose to do a T - Chart displaying some benefits and disadvantages in having money. After that, we had to summarise what we have learned.

Things I learned:
Money is an item used to buy goods and services. Money is used to improve our lives and also damage our way of living our lives. We have many debts and we always need to pay for where we're living. Spending too much money is a bad thing because you might not have enough money to pay for taxes.

Athletics Day!

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, recently our school held a very big event. It was Athletics Day! If you didn't know, Athletics is a range of events covering track and field. We had the choice to compete competitively or socially. If we compete socially our times don't get recorded, however, in the competitive you get your times recorded.  In every event, each person gains points towards our house.

For social, as I said, our times don't get recorded but each time we participate in a game we either get 5-4 points. For example, my house is Mōhua and I have participated in 3 events, that means that I have contributed points towards my house. We also have to participate in 5 events.

My first event was discus. I liked discus because it was easier than shot put. From my memory, I threw it pretty far around 10 metres. The last time I threw it only reached 9 metres so I was delighted to see that I have improved a bit.

My second event was sprints. Sprints is my favourite event because I like to think that I'm quite fast and it feels good to run around. For this one, we had to go in groups of 4. Since this wasn't a competitive event some people skipped to the end.

My last event was shot put. I think shot put is a great sport but for small people like me, it is quite hard to throw a ball that weighs around 3kg. I still think I did pretty well in this event, my throw went out pretty far.

For the last two events which are long jump and high jump, we missed out on it because we weren't called in. But I'm sure it would've been really fun to do both of them.

After finishing our events we had the relays. The relays are based on years groups, there were three houses and overall I think Riroriro (Blue) won most of the relays. It was really exciting to see people run, they were really fast and I felt really refreshed. I wished I could've run in the relays, but I don't think my speed would be up to par with the other competitors.

Kiwi Ingenuity

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post! Recently in business studies, we have been learning about kiwi ingenuity and New Zealand's ingenuity important. For this task, we had to answer this question. 'How does Kiwi Ingenuity benefit New Zealand as a nation?' This is my answer to that question.

Kiwi ingenuity benefits us very much, it has boosted up our economy and has improved how we live. Kiwi ingenuity is spread all over the world and has influenced many people around the world, making New Zealand well-known. From all the things that have been made, kiwi’s around the nation will be able to use these to improve their lifestyles and environment. Kiwi ingenuity has also brought us together as a nation to improve our environment and make our country an amazing place. To conclude this kiwi ingenuity is unique and very beneficial to the people of New Zealand.
