Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 1 • Day 2 - Activity 1

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, for today I am going to be doing another activity for the Summer Learning Journey. I hope you enjoy reading my post and I hope you learn something!

Day 2: UP IN THE AIR

Activity 1: Flying Solo

Jean Batten was a famous aviator (pilot) who was born in Rotorua, New Zealand in 1909. In the 1930s she made several record-breaking solo flights (on her own) across the world. In fact, she was the first person to fly solo from England to New Zealand - a huge achievement! She also flew a number of long solo flights between England and Australia/Brazil. When she flew, she always took a sulk dress with her so that she could look beautiful at the parties she attended upon her arrival.

Amelia Earhart was an Americal aviator who lived at about the same time as Jean Batten. Like Jean, she also flew solo. In fact, she was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She flew all the way from Canada to Northern Ireland on her own without stopping. In 1937, Amelia Earhart attempted to circumnavigate (go right around) the world. Unfortunately, the flight ended in tragedy when she disappeared near Howland Island, about halfway between Australia and Hawaii. She was never found.

For this activity, we had to compare and contrast Jean and Amelia, we had to include at least three similarities and three differences between them.

In the old days.....

Hello everybody! Welcome to another post today we had a really fun challenge, we had to pick any kind of topic, etc. basketball, clowns or fortnite. But the hard thing about this challenge was the time limit, we had 40 minutes. That's a lot of time but time was really running out. Fortunately, I finished in time, the thing is the people who finish in time goes in the draw to win a prize. For the challenge we had to make a DLO about our topic, my topic was about the history of music.

Aliens????

Today I have been reading through a book named Area 51.  Area 51 is know as Paradise Ranch, Dreamland and Groom lake.  Area 51 is an Air Force base in the Nevada Desert.  The U.S. Government built the base in 1955.   

Quick Facts

• People had been telling that some strange thing have been happening in Area 51.
• They also reported that they saw mysterious bright lights in the sky.

They also said the those mysterious lights came from the light of an Aliens UFO.  1989, a scientist named Rob Lazar shocked the whole world.  He said he studied an Aliens UFO near Area 51.

    

 The people think that Area 51 is home to then crashed UFO's.  Other also think that real life Aliens live inside the base.   They also said that the Roswell UFO crashed in Area 51.
