Convection: Stop Motion

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post today for science we learned about Convection and Conduction. Convections happens when the heat is transferred by the movement of liquid or gas and Conduction happens when heat passes through a material. After learning about there purposes we then had to create a stop motion about convection or conduction. For this activity, we were allowed to work in pair so my friend and I chose to do convection. We used google slides to create stop motion, so you will need to go through the slides at a fast pace. Enjoy watching our stop motion!

Business and Enterprise

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. For the past 4 weeks, we have been learning about business and enterprise and working towards making a profit on market day. We had a total of 4 weeks to prepare and learn about how to handle a business, make a profit and create sales. On Wednesday the 23rd of September, we had our official market day, where people from the community and other schools bought goods and services from our business. The next day, 24th September, we were given a task where we had to create a blog post about business, enterprise, and market day. For market day my group created Filipino delicacies, Coffee Jelly and Leche Flan.

Business and Enterprise

Week 1: During the first week of Business and Enterprise, we were introduced to the topic and guest speakers told us about their business, how they work and how they managed to to get to where they are now. During our Wananga class, we learned more about the topic and got to create our groups. We only were allowed to have 4 people in our group and they each had a role. The CEO (Chief Executive Officer), Marketing Manager, Production Manager and Sales/Finance Manager.

Week 2: During the second week we started on our business plans, and another round of guest speakers were introduced to us. Our group was split up and we were allocated a place where a guest speaker would talk about our role in the business. I was CEO so I had to be in a group with all the CEOs. We also started our Financial Report. We also did our letter of application to give to our teacher so that they can accept our company.

Week 3: We started our poster for the front of our stall, we then started or marketing, like creating our logos, a slide presentation to be shown to the school and the community and lastly a poster for our stall. We did that for the rest of the week since our topic was food and our production starts on the fourth week.

Week 4: Week 4 was the week of the market day, so we only had 2 days to fully create both of our products. On Monday we created our Jelly for our Coffee Jelly and on Tuesday we completed making the Leche Flan and Coffee Jelly. Then on Wednesday 23rd September, we had our Market day.

Market Day

On the morning of the market day we all were busy trying to create our foods and set up our stalls outside this was between 8:40 to 9:30. At 10 we took out our products and displayed them on our table. Market Day officially started at 10:30 am, our stall had many people that bought coffee jelly and we had sold out of it really early, and near the middle of the market day we sold out our flans and people bought 2 flans with meringue for $2.00, which I thought was a very good deal. We also had a dj during market day, which I thought was very convenient.

Instrument Evaluation

1. What have you studied in Music this term?
I have studied piano, guitar and ukulele. For the piano, we learned some beginner and advanced songs, which I enjoyed a lot. In guitar, we also had to learn a song and it was very enjoyable for me. For ukulele, we studied an easy song that I liked very much.

2. Which instrument have you enjoyed and why?
I enjoyed learning all of the instruments, but the instrument I liked learning the ost would be the piano. Because I have learned piano before and it was easy for me to learn the chords and how both hand flow together.

3. Which instrument did you find the most challenging and why?
I found the guitar the hardest because my hands couldn't reach the corrects chords properly.

4. Which instrument are you going to focus on for the rest of the term and why? What would you like to achieve?
I am going to do the piano for the rest of the term because I enjoy playing the piano. I would like to finish learning a classical piece.

Ukulele Reflections

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today we have completed learning a song for the ukulele and after that, we then are starting to learn the guitar. But before that, we had to answer some questions about the ukulele and our experience with it.

1. Describe your study of ukulele, have you enjoyed it? Found it hard/easy?

It was very fun to learn about the ukulele, especially because I knew how to play some chords on it. I found it easy to learn because I already knew how to play the ukulele before.

2. Where is the ukulele from? Where was It formed? by who?

The ukulele is from Hawaii, but it first originated in Europe and then it was introduced to Hawaii. It was believed that Manuel Nunes was one of the creators of the Hawaiin ukulele.

3. Add a labelled picture of the ukulele:

Parts Of The Ukulele – Kala Brand Music Co.

4. Which song have you been learning?

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you are

Photmontage

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today we have completed learning about photomontage and its history. Our learning objective for this topic of photography is to understand more about photomontage and use it to create some art.

From Hannah Hӧch work, I learned that photomontage doesn't have to be clean, precise or neat, it's just as if a bunch of photos overlapped and attached together to create a piece of artwork. Which I found very enjoyable because you take any photo or words to create some artwork.

When we're creating our photomontages, it was very challenging for me because it didn't know where to put my selected images in and whether I have layered too many photos into one image. I learned a lot from this and after many days of practice, I created my final 3 pieces that I am very proud of.

This picture represents disaster and what humans do to make Earth more inhabitable. Starting from the bottom we can see lava and an umbrella,  I used these two images to create a link. because lava is hot, an umbrella is made either out of plastic or nylon. If these two were to mix it would create a fire. Moving up there is an owl, I used an owl to show how animals are getting caught up in our activities and how we are harming them.

Moving up I have a placed a lighthouse and cut it in half and put a smoke between it. I did this to show what we do and how it damages man-made structures.

- This relates to me because I care about our environment and I do not want to destroy it, I want our environment to be healthy so that we could keep on living and prevent endangering animals.

This montage I made was created with pure randomness, I didn't really know what to do so I decided to design a person. This entire picture represents modern life and it shows how a person might dress themselves up.

- This doesn't relate to me in any way, but I thought it would be really fun to design a person that portrays some traits of the modern society.

This montage represents noble society and how tough it is to live like a noble. At the back is a cropped picture of a map, that represents the land and citizens. Onto the main objective is a statue of a man. The body face and neck of the man is arranged so it shows how someone of noble background can be so different. The head and mouth represent something different, for example, perhaps a person might be complimenting someone but in their head, they might be insulting them. Moving on to the tray with the fan and eye, it represents the people that work for them and society. The tray with the fan shows that a servants job is to serve their master. Lastly, the eye on the fan represents the watchful eyes of society and how a scandal can mess up your reputation.

- This doesn't relate to me in any way, I was just very inspired by a book that had a theme of noble society and tragedy.

Reflection: In my opinion, I think I did a decent job creating a photomontage especially because I struggled a lot in the begin and I didn't know where to put images and how to arrange them to make them more meaningful. But for the past few weeks, I practised and experimented with different images and arrangements, which all helped toward creating these 3 photomontages.

Question: If you were able to create a photomontage what meaning would it have behind it? And how does it connect to you or your culture?

Particle Theory and Diffusion

Hi, everyone! Welcome to another post. Today for science we have begun learning about particle theory and diffusion. We first learned about what matter is and how both of these topics relate to matter. After that, we learned what particle theory and diffusion is.

Ask Ethan: How Do Quantum Fields Create Particles?
Particles
Particle Theory: Particle Theory is a theory which explains the changes of properties in different states of matter.

  • All matter is made up of particles.
  • All particles in a pure substance are the same.
  • There is space between all particles.
  • Particles are always moving.
  • There are attractive forces between particles.
  • Temperature affects the speed at which particles move.
Diffusion: Diffusions is when particles move from an area that has high concentrations to an area of  low concentration

Today we are going to do an experiment on diffusion.
Our Aim: To investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of diffusion.

Hypothesis: I think that hot water will diffuse faster than cold water because I think that hot water particles are more likely to spread out rapidly.

Method:
  1. Put warm water and cold water into a cylinder cup with a wide base of the same size. The containers have to be the same size.
  2. Get some KMn04 ( Potassium Permanganate)
  3. Put the KMn04 in both the warm water and cold water. - They have to be the same amount.
Conclusion:
In the end, warm water had made the KMn04 spread out faster than the cold water. The warm water was faster than the cold water because the warm water has more energy. This is also because the particles are moving fast to spread the liquid.
