Personal Rubbish Diary | Social Studies

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today for social studies we did an activity about collecting rubbish. Last week we were tasked to track how much rubbish we have thrown for three days, it was categorised as rubbish, recycling and organics. After we have collected our data we had to put that data on a hand-drawn bar graph.

What can be done to reduce what goes into your rubbish bin?
Use fewer plastics and throw organics in compost. Instead use reusable lids that can be used again, to cover up leftover food.

Where was the majority of your waste going?
Organics/Recycling or Rubbish?
Most of my waste was rubbish according to the data.

Did you find that one day had more waste than another day? Why was this?
I had thrown away more waste on the first day because we didn't have food cooked for us.

The Hunter Swoop 2 - The Search | English

The dark ebony branches of the bare trees stand amidst the odd mist. Withering dark trees stood parallel to the bare trees. Unclear water littered with dead leaves, reflecting towards parallel trees.

A mysterious mist hanging above a path of fallen leaves signifying the beginning of the winter season. More bare trees litter across the barren land as he continues to walk to a mysterious place, not knowing the end he might face.

Sustainable Fishing | Social Studies

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, in social studies we have been working on learning more about sustainable fishing and how it is useful to prevent us from damaging our oceans. We had to create a Prezi explaining why overfishing, bycatch and dolphin-safe labels are problems and what sustainable fishing can do to help with it.

Recycling Bin | Social Studies

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. Today for social studies we learned about how lazy recycling is affecting the environment and society. After reading an article about it, we needed to answer some questions about it.

What % of rubbish can cause a recycling truck to be dumped?
10% of rubbish in trucks have to dump their contents.

What is going into people's recycling bins?
People are currently putting in non-recyclable content inside yellow bins which harm the environment and creates a problem for the organizations that help with dealing with our everyday waste.

What is the current penalty?
As of May 03, 664 bins has been removed by the city council due to the amount of lazy recycling that has been happening all around the country. Many other residents and citizens have received warnings because of their recycling habits.

The Hunter Swoop | English

Top left-hand corner:
A shining bright sun that reigns over light and fluffy balls of gas,

Top right-hand corner:
The sky creating a dark attractive blue from various atmospheric conditions.

Bottom:
A clear and distinctive shade of blue lights up the top of the calm waters. Small ripples and currents create texture and movements as an opened tin can float above.

Middle:
Surprise! A cute little mouse lives inside the tin can, only relying on its ability to float to survive, as it looks confused about the situation at hand. The mouse holding a miniature umbrella as it covers itself from the bright blaring sun.

Ecotourism | Social Studies

Hi everyone! Today for social studies we learned about ecotourism, how it affects the environment and the benefits of having ecotourism. After learning about it, we had to answer some questions about it to show our learning.

What is ecotourism?
Ecotourism is defined as a way to cater to tourists visiting a natural environment perhaps a coral reserve, without damaging the environment or disturbing animal life.

“responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people and involves interpretation and education” - ecotourism.org

Why is it a growing trend?
There is greater awareness in the world to protect these areas, which means there are more supporters towards this cause. Because that space is being protected more tourists would come to that spot making a better economy for that particular country.

How can tourism help our oceans?

Like the video above represents ecotourism is very helpful for the ocean because we are conserving and protecting the animals that are being threatened by poachers and fishermen. As the video states, the act of ecotourism increases the number of animals being breaded.
