THE 2017 WRAP UP!

It's a little bit late for this wrap up, beacuse it is already 2018, but we still got time right.  It is also my last year in Hornby Primary.  So lets get started on Term 1, let's see what did happen in term 1, well let's go and see.

Term 1: 

In Term 1, we visited Spencer park to do some activities, and collect some things for our treasure art back at school.  I was really excited since we were also gonna go to the beach.  But whne it started my group didn't get to collect any since the teacher that was with us thought we were gonna go back again.  We also got to play on the park play volleyball and explore.  So when we got back to school my group had to go and collect some at school.  So I picked everything and started on my art, after I finished it which was in about 2 days it looked like this. 

Reading; In reading for term 1 we learned about the Maori traditional games, we had to get in group of 2 and pick which game you would like to do.  My partner and I did a DLO revolving around how to make string figures, like a broomstick our DLO turned out like this.  

We also did some traditional and cultural dances, like the "Samoan Sasa" and the "Super Haka with the Ti Rakau Sticks".  

Term 2:

In Term 2 we did a mystery research, there we here a lot of topic, so first what we did was we had to pick a topic and do some research about it.  Then after the research we had to get in groups and create some about the topic.  My topic was about Easter Island, Easter Island's mystery was the statue's called Moai.  We also had to write speeches about our creations. My group did a whole island made out of cardboard.  We also made a mountain out of paper mache it was really fun and also very challenging.

We also did a lot of activities on our topic like a timeline. But the main mystery in Easter Island was how the Moai/statue's was built.  Eventually we didn't find out the answer.

Term 3:
Term 3 was an amazing term we had an extravaganza, the year 6's was lucky to have an extravaganza since the other year 6's didn't have one.  So our theme was NZ Past to present, and my class did NZ Music Month.  We listened to some music from the 1900's to 2000's, then we had to pick which song are we going to and then get into groups.  I pick 6 months in a leaky boat, the music was good and the tune was also very good, it was also easy to dance to.  Then at the end of our performance we had to get on the stage again and the most voted song which is called Why does love do this to me.  So then we had to dance to it.  It was a fun and crazy performance.  So then I had another performance and it was about culture, I had a group, amd we dance Tinikling (from Philippines),

We also learned something about binary numbers.

Reading: In reading we did a novel study there were 4 choices. Holes, Among the hidden, Freak the might, Number the Stars.  I picked Among the hidden because it had a very attractive tittle.  So then we had to do some activities like doing a character description and many other things we had to finish our reading early because of the extravaganza. 

Term 4:
Term 4, which is in the season of summer, that means there is swimming.  So first we are going to Canterbury Swim School for swimming lesson.  We did that for 2 weeks and then took swimming lessons at school.

We also had an Athletics day, there were basic activities like sprints and high jump.  I put up a post about this, here is a link. 

Writing:
In writing we had to pick a topic of our own and do some research about your topic I picked pyramids.  So then it probably took about 3-4 weeks to complete the whole research.  

Using the power of netiquette..... dat - da - da - da.

W.A.L.T: interact online in a kind, positive and helpful way. 

For the past few weeks we have been working on cyber smart, means we are learning on how to be cyber smart so what were doing is we are learning about net etiquette.  I will explain to you what net etiquette means.  Net etiquette means the rules of the behavior that apply's while using the internet. Netetiquette comes from the word net and etiquette.  Our teacher for cyber  smart made a mindmup for us to fill in, it is about the dos and don'ts of net etiquette.

Big Question
How does netiquette affect our relationship?
It will affect your relationship online, means that if you say something good online like "Hey, I really like your blog post, it is really cool and amazing." and maybe they will like you.  But if you say something nasty like "Hey, you stink , your a horrible person." the person who is talking to you might be very sad so then they might not want to be your friend.  As the old saying goes "Treat Other People The Way You Want To Be Treated"

Among The Hidden (That means hide!!!!!!)

It is almost the end of the term, so we are wrapping up our novel studies for reading.  Our teacher set up a little activity for us to do, we also had the choice if we wanted to go with a buddy.  My buddies were, Jolly-Rose, Skyler and I.  The activity that we did was a "Character Collection", that means that we are going to be thinking of one or two characters, to describe their personality.  Like, the special things that they bring or use.  So my group decided that we would do a poster, with some clay models, for the collection.  (P.S  the book that my group was reading was among the hidden)

Focus: Thinking critically about what we have read and using our inferring skills.

Refelctive Comment: I think we all did very well, maybe next time we will improve on describing what we have made.

The clay model probably took 2 to 3 day to finish but we finished it, and the deadline was on the last day of the term.  Her is a picture of my group creating our clay models.

Solve Percent Equations from larger numbers.

For this weeks maths we learnt how to solve percent equations from larger numbers.  It is easy once you get it, it is kinda complicated, but once you get it you will surely use it a lot.  So I made a DLO to show you how to use it.  I hope will learn it easily and use through your time at school.  Have a great day.

Replay, Again and again

For this week's writing we watched a video called Replay and it is about a apocalyptic world.  There were a sister and brother who survived the tragic thing.  So we had to write a story about the story, the story was very very sad.  I hope you will like reading my story, have a great day and Bye!

Reflective Comment: I think I did pretty well in my story. What I need to do is to put in more juicy words as maybe it might be boring.

Dear Diary,

Day 12 of survival.

I was just waiting here, in my bedroom.  The name was Daniel, we lived in a mephitic town.  Our town was in an apocolypse. None of us can breathe through the deadly air.  But I was lucky, lucky I was living in a little underground house.  My sister always used to go out into that deadly world, to collect stuff to keep.  In our little house we kept some devices left around, some food and my sister got a coffee machine.

 My mum and my dad, sadly didn’t survive the apocalypse, so they saved us instead of them.  That’s when my sister learned how to go outside and collect stuff that we need.  She also learned how to turn the oxygen button on her machine.  Hopefully some other people survived, as we are the only ones living here.  

Writing in my diary was the only way to not get bored from waiting, waiting for my sister to arrive.  As I heard footsteps arriving, I then got excited, she was back, I kept saying in my head.  She opened the door, I rushed to her.

Her name was Rose.  “Rose you're here!” I said.  Rose took out her bag and dipped her hand inside she showed this cool thing, I didn’t know what it was or what to do with it.  “Now I think this will excite you.” She said.  Then she gave me it,  it was like a flashlight, it flashes of this amazing tune of light.  I was playing with it, when she had something in her hand what was it? She played it, it looked like some tape recorder.  It said “Do you want to play with us?”  I asked her to play it again, “Show me! Lend it to me! Turn it on again!” I begged.  “Next time I will go with you.”   

She put the tape recorder in the top shelf of the cabinet, that way I couldn’t reach it.  “Isn’t time for you to go to bed?” Rose asked.  “Alright.” I said.  I walked up to the bed sad and anxious.  While the night was rolling I started to plan how to get the tape recorder and get outside in that deadly place.  I will see how we go, tomorrow.

Time: 5:00 am

Dear Diary,

Day 13 of survival.

I just woke up from the aesthetic sleep, it was now time, Rose will be probably be still asleep.  I grabbed the spare machine and carefully walked up the stairs.  As I was walking I put on the machine I didn't really know what it was, but I learnt how to use it.  

I was know ready, ready to go in the frightening world.  But I remembered the tape recorder, I forgot to get it.  I hurried since my sister was about to wake up, I climbed up the table and got the tape recorder.  I then rushed, up the stairs and through the breathing compact.  That’s when my journey started.

Walking through the depths of the apocalyptic road, the road was sandy and I knew the air was deadly.  Walking through the neglected town, it was like walking through ghost town.  The town looked as if there were zombies that visited.  I walked around the town, the town was empty if I could, I could call it a wasteland.  I looked around the place, holding the tape recorder.  I played it and walked up to a pool or something like that.  

Then the tape recorder made some car sound, I saw the car, it was broken down and torn apart.  Secondly I heard a loud dinging and donging sound from the lanky tower.  I was hoping my sister wouldn’t find out that I have gone here.  I was walking through the empty streets, looking around I walked.  I went straight into this school gate, in front was a torn down  playground.  

Looking around the playground, it felt as if all the kids died.  Walking around the frayed playground was a pain, just remembering all the good memories.  I was walking towards the wrecked Mary-go-round.  I touched it and spun it, I decided to sit down as I was going to play the tape recorder.  I was hearing all sorts of sounds, I can hear laughs and kids playing around.

I spun the merry go round around, then something amazing happened, there were kids that was playing in the nearby tree.  I looked at the, it seems as they are making a paper airplane.  They were finished with it, they were mumbling, they stood up and the girl throwed it up into the air. It flowed into the baby blue sky, I tried to touch it but I couldn’t seems like I was a ghost.  It crashed into a window, Looked at them and they were huddling like a team talk.  

I touched my goggle and my mask, thinking about taking it off.  The suddenly it hit me, I took my goggles off.  Looking at them, I threw my goggles on the ground and…..  started to take my mask off, I took it off and breathed in the deadly air.  Now I felt my leg which was cut off, return, everything was turning colourful and brand new.  The trees was turning into luscious green leaves and the buildings was turning into shiny, glossy walls.

Then I heard this “Do you want to play with us?” They both said.  I smiled and I ran to the window where that crashed airplane was.  Ran back to them, I was so excited.  Then with a flash of light…..  Now I think I am in the world of dead, it seemed so good.  How would my sister react to this? Well I guess this is the end…

Solve whole unknown problems

Now for this weeks maths we are learning how to solve whole unknown problems, it is juts like solving part unknown problems with multiplication and division.  Just like my other post, I posted last week, we are going to be doing the same thing except different questions.  I hope you learn and enjoy my DLO. 

After Resulted (Of The SLIMEEE)

After making  the slime, for the first slime it didn't really work, her was the ingredient on the first one.

• Water                 We had to put the water (hot water) in first before the glue and borax, which we 
• Glue                   know wouldn't work.  So we tried out another recipe, the recipe was.
• Borax                 Some Cornstarch and some dish soap.  It sorta made a playdoh kind of type. 

 This was the finished result. 

SLIMEEEEEE!

Today at class we are making some SLIMEEEE, we earned this because we filed up our marble jar, we had 100 marbles.  We earned this marble day because we were doing the right thing at the right time.  It took us probably about 2 weeks to fill it up.  This afternoon before we make the slime we had to decide which recipe we are doing so we got planning, we got into groups, in my group I had Keyana, Nature, Mikayla and I.  We voted on a range of different kinds of slime.  But we mostly liked fluffy slime.

So we picked some ingredient for the fluffy slime and these are:

• Borax - Added with water
• 1/4 cup of glue
• Half a cup of shaving foam 
• Foaming Hand wash
• Lotion 
• Cornstarch 

Those were the ingredients that we found.   

Solve part unknown problems using multiplication and division.

This week for maths I learn't how to solve part unknown problems using multiplication and division, I know it is pretty long but it is really easy.  So it took probably a few minutes to get a hang of it, but I am sure that you will quickly learn it.  So I whipped up a DLO that will show you how to solve part unknown problems using multiplication and division.  I hope you enjoy.

The Piano......

Our extravaganza is finished so this week we were focusing on a video called The Piano.  The Piano is about this Grandpa he is playing a sad tune, and throughout the video, what I am saying is the the story is really sad.  It is also a inspiring story, I almost cried, I also only watched 1 time, it made me to sad.  So I hope you like reading my story.  

Reflective Comment: I think I did pretty, I don't really know what to work on. 

W.A.L.T: Recall again what is happening in the story.

The Piano

I was alone in this inconsolable house.  As I started playing the grand piano, I started playing a sorrow, crestfallen and forlorn tune, just like as a river flows to the soiled dirt.  Just playing the grand piano makes my heart feel like it's melting into millions of pieces.  The piano keys were are white as the fluffy clouds, floating up in the sky. I was starting to remember the memorable things that I had.  As time goes the more things you lose or is it the more things you get…...

I remember playing this crestfallen song with my lovely wife, it seems like my wife was right next to me.  It felt like happy times, she kissed in my cracked, dry cheek, but a flash of light she was gone.  Now I seemed so sad, what had happened to her?  Where was she gone to?  It seems now that I lost her, a few minutes had past I had just remembered the first world war.  It was as woebegone as a broken hearted person.  I heard a range of fire bomb hitting the trenches our trenches only my friend and I survived KAPOW!  After a few minutes passed I just realized that my friend had already got out of the trenches and sacrificed his life.  He was gone too.

I continued playing the despondent tune.  Crying feels good but the I will keep the pain inside not to let out a single word, for as the pain you may not know how to take.  I had just remembered the time that my parent had given me a horse head toy it was my 8th birthday.  I had for a long time, now I had given it to my lovely grandson.  For that he will remember and we both continued the wretched tune together.

 

Trying out Voki....

This Wednesday the Hornby Cluster came to out school for our school summit, a lot of people volunteered to be in the summit.  We did some session about our Chromebook we did some cool activities and we also learnt lots of things.  What I did first was learning to make a google site next was making voki.

Extravaganza just happened..............

Journey to the first Production show ( Extravaganza)

Welcome back to my blog!  If you did not know we planned that we are having a extravaganza ( or as production.)  Just last night we performed item for the extravaganza.  If you didn't know we for our item we did NZ Music Month ( New Zealand Music Month.)  We are performing for 2 nights, both Wednesday 30th of August and 31th of August.  We performed in the high school auditorium, we did this extravaganza because our teachers want us to experience.  I  an mostly performing 2 things and that is my class and the Filipino dance.  I am also the MC/ Narrator. 

I had to get dressed before we go to the auditorium, so I first put on a white singlet then I put on some white  stockings and then a navy blue and white striped t-shirt with a sailor's neckerchief.  Of course if you did not know I am doing sailor themed song, its called Six Months In a Leaky Boat.  It felt really really nervous but I got on stage and did my best, it was really fun.  It took about maybe 5 or 7 minutes to perform our classes item.  

For the Filipino act I dressed up as a colorful flowers, I mean I had colorful flowers of my dress.  Then I wore I orange triangle for my hair.

Reflective comment: I think we did an amazing job and that's because we were having fun, I think our next step would be to be more confident and work on our timing more.  After last nights performance the next day which is today our teacher got us to to a Production PMI.

          

                

Extravaganza or..... Production!

"I'm so excited!!!"  Welcome back to my blog and as I told I am so excited about....  The Extravaganza!  We only have a few before the Extravaganza, if  you did not know the Extravaganza is on week 6.  I know right and its only week 5.  For the Extravaganza the theme is NZ past to present.  In our class we are doing New Zealand Music Month.  So our teacher picked some songs, we first listened to the song then we voted on which songs we are doing.  

I also made a poster for the Extravaganza, here is is.

The Great America Eclipse

"This is so exciting!!" A Lunar Eclipse just happened this morning in America.  It was only about 7 or 8 am in the morning when it had happened.  It was America's there first time in 99 years, "Whoa that's long."  Are you excited for the next Eclipse?  I have a few picture for you to see how a Eclipse works. 21.08.17 is the date.

The Sun is facing the Earth but the moon is blocking the Sun like the moon is an umbrella and that's how Eclipse's happen.

The 3rd Child.........

W.A.L.T: Retell the most important part of the story so far.

If you did not know this term in reading, we are doing a novel study!  Yes, that is right we are doing a novel study.  There are 4 books to choose from, Holes, Among The Hidden, Freak The Might, Number The Stars.  All of the books sound very cool but I picked Among The Hidden, the tittle was really cool.  While I was reading the little introduction in the back of the book, I enjoyed reading it because it was so mysterious and I really liked it.  

So I had already read up to chapter 12, I had to something important that happened through the chapters that read.  (We were only allowed to read up to the end of Chapter 12)  

About the Story:

The story was about this boy who was in a country that had a 2 child policy.  He lived in the farm, his family already had 2 kids so that meant that he was the 3rd child and he has to hide away, so he doesn't get killed or arrested. 

Reflective comment: I think I did pretty well but next time me and my buddy should be more specific on what we were doing and more detailed. 

We also used clay for making the characters and the setting of the place.
