Game Development | DTE

This term for DTE we learned more about robotics and game development. Our main project for this term was to develop a game of some sort to present at the end of the term. We first researched sites that we could program and develop a game on. Some of the sites that we found were the Makey Makey site, Gamefroot and Scratch.

We used the Makey Makey site to search for some ideas of games that we could do and we looked at Gamefroot and Scratch as possible sites that we could program our game in. Our first idea was inspired by the dinosaur game. We named it Witching hour, we started planning during October so our theme was Halloween. We planned our characters, their purpose and what their role is.

Unfortunately, this idea did not work out due to the limited amount of time we had. Our original plan was to develop this game in Scratch but luckily our amazing teacher suggested that we develop a game in Gamefroot. So we planned a new game once again.

The name of our second plan is Hypogeal, it is set in an apocalyptic world, where the objective of the game was to go through the terrain and get out underground hence the name, Hypogeal.

Reflection:
We manage to finish our game on the second-to-last week of school. We then got to present our game to year 6 students that came to tour our school. All in all, I think we did a good job creating our game, everyone did a fair amount of work and our outcome was satisfactory. There were some difficulties with the programming and there are some things that we could've improved on.

Sustainability Project

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post today,  my group and I have completed our last assignment for our Sustainability assignment. This last project was more enjoyable rather than the two other tasks because in this task we had the choice to either create a game (digital or physical), write a story and many other things that can show a topic of sustainability. My group and I decided to create a game, we were inspired by the game cops and robbers. After writing all our rules out we also had to keep a log of our progress.

17/8 - P4&5
20/8 - P3&4
24/8 - P4&5
Goal
Brainstorm, what should we do? Topic?

By the end of the day: We finished planning and
discussing the rules of the game.
Topic: Pollution/Sustainability
Project: Physical game - Sustainability
Goal
Finish Writing our Rules
Finish writing what each role
is meant to do.

By the end of the Day:,
We finished writing the rules
and roles of the game.
Goal
Finish blog post

By the end of the day:
Finished a blog post
- Needs to be published -

Topic: Pollution

<<<Title: Seeds, Planters and the Polluters>>>

There are three teams in this game - The Planters, Seedlings and the Polluters.

3 - 4 Planters
2 - 3 Polluters
The rest of the remaining of the class are seedlings

Main Objective: Catch all the seedlings and turn them into whatever role has the most seedlings.

How to start the game
The seedlings are given time to hide at the beginning of the game. After a minute or so
the planters are released, they have to find the seedlings. A few seconds after the planters are
released, the polluters will be released, and they have to find the seedlings.

- Note: YOU´RE NOT ALLOWED TO GO TO THE OTHER TEAM’S JAIL/GARDEN AND GET THE SEEDLINGS, ONLY THE SEEDLINGS ARE ALLOWED TO GET THEM!)  DON'T PRETEND TO BE ONE OF THE SEEDLINGS. PLEASE DO NOT CHEAT!

Rules:
- The taggers ( planters and polluters ) are not allowed to just barge in a prison and steal the seedlings.
- No Cheating
- The seedlings are the only one allowed to get/tag other seedlings from jail.

~Roles~

  • Seedlings: Their main objective is to hide from both the planters and the polluters. If a planter tags them they are then taken to the planters prison where a planter will be stationed too. A seedling can get out of their prison/garden when another seedling has tagged them. The same happens with the polluters. Except when the seedlings are there for more than 3 minutes they become a polluter.
  • Planters: Their main objective is to catch as many seedlings as they can. One of them has to guard the jail, and they have to be at least 2 metres away from the prison. The others have to try and tag all of the seedlings and bring them to their garden.
  • Polluters: Their main objective is to catch all of the seedlings and turn them into polluters. The polluters also have a prison of their own where a guard will be stationed, and they to be at least 2 metres away from the prison

<<< Prison/Gardens >>>

The prison for the planters is called a garden because a planter is a positive role so their prison
should be positive too. In their garden, one planter can be stationed in front of the garden but
they have to be at least 2 metres away from the garden. If they tag a seedling and the seedling
is still in their

The prison for the polluters is called a prison because a polluter is a negative role. When a
seedling is captured and put into the prison there is a high chance that they can turn into a
polluter. If they are still in prison for 3 minutes then they are now polluters and will help them
capture other seedlings. The polluter can also have a guard stand by the prison, but they
have to be at least 2 metres away from it.

When a seedling is captured in any of these prisons, they can get the captured seedling back.
To do that they need to risk their lives and try to get into each tagger's prisons and tag the
seedling so they could get out.

Badminton!

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today I wanted to share an activity my family and I did during our guaranteed time. In that time my uncle, sister and I played a game of badminton. We wanted to see who was the best amongst us, so we had a little tournament.

Up first was my uncle against my sister and whoever won that game would then play me. I really wanted to play against my sister but our uncle ended up winning. In the last round, the setpoint was 30, I was against my uncle. I ended up winning 30 - 25, my winning gift was a box of Oreos.

Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 3 • Day 5 - Activity 2

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post! Today I will be doing another activity for the Summer Learning Journey. Enjoy!

Activity 2: CAINE'S ARCADE

Caine Monroy is a 17-year-old boy who lives in Los Angeles (L.A), California. When he was younger, he spent his summer holidays at his dad's work - an auto parts store in downtown L.A. While his dad was working, he decided to build himself something that he has always wanted - an arcade! He built an arcade all by himself out of cardboard boxes and things that he found lying around the shop.

One day a man came into the store to buy a handle for his car and met Caine. Caine showed him what he had made and the man was so impressed with the arcade game that he made a movie about Caine and invited all the people in L.A. to come and play the games in Caine's Arcade.

For this activity, we had to explain what our favourite game was. What it's called and how to play it.

~~~~
This game is called bingo, it is a Filipino game, but I have changed some rules in it to make it more fun and exciting. I wrote about this back in 2019 at the start of the year. It is my favourite game and I love to play it with my friends.
Bingo!
Written By: Lyan
Objective
Step on other people’s foot or cut peoples arm and foot out, to get them out and
be the last one standing. (Not actually cutting)
Players
You must have eight to ten players in one game. You can work in pairs to get other
people out but people must not know you are working together.
Scoring
To get someone out and get a point you must step on there foot.
Winning
When there are only two people left in the each have quick turns to get the people out.
Rules
Eight to ten people must be spread out a vast area, they are in a circle.
(Preferably a big square.)
There must be boundaries between the players one metre away from each other or arm length.
To get someone out you must step on their foot before they move away.
Players must be aware of their surroundings and look out for the people who are close to them.
To make a move on someone you must jump, forward and sideways. You cannot move backwards.
You can only move back when a person is attacking you.
When a person attacks you it is when they attempt to step on your foot.
If you fall when you are jumping/landing you are out.
You can’t gang up on one person, you have to at least get everyone out.
To attack you need to attempt to step on there foot, you must move fast to be able to get them out before they move their foot.
When there are only two people left, they must take turns very quickly for either one of them to win.
To start the game you need to gather all the players in the middle.
Once that is done put your foot and hands and the middle and when someone says “Bingo!” You need to jump to the nearest side or corner.
You can’t take two or more jump, you take a step but no more than one.
Another attack is when you cut off someone’s arm, Not actually but just touching the arm, you can also cut their legs. (not literally)
KICK the LONGBALL!!
Hello everyone! Welcome to another post today I will be reflecting on what on PE a few days ago, so we played some games and we reflected how well we did in the team.
This week in our P.E Hurumanu we have been…
  • (What): We have been trying to make our teamwork better.
  • Where: Gym
  • (Why): We did this to make students actually play and work with others that we don't normally work with.
S - Statement
E - Explanation
E - Example
Statement
Our first activity was Kick Longball For this activity, I rated my self as a 3
Explanation
To achieve level 4 we have to show that we can consistently: Make a contribution to the team, make sure to include everyone, also always encouraging everyone, and say positive words.
Example
During the first game of Long Kickball, I showed that I am working at level 3 by making a contribution to the team, actually playing and encouraging people to do a well. These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3.
Statement
Our second activity was Bench Ball For this activity, I rated my self as a 4
Explanation
To achieve level 4 we have to show that we can consistently: Make a contribution to the team, make sure to include everyone, also always encouraging everyone, and say positive words.
Example
During the first game of Bench Ball, I showed that I am working at level leading the team, by encouraging people to do better, leading the team and teaching them to be better players. These examples show that I have met the standard for level 2
Next week I am aiming to work at level 4 To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on spreading positivity and helping other people do better at the games.
FIlipino Cultural Week: Day 2 - Filipino Games
Hello everyone! Welcome to another post, on Tuesday, it was day 2 of the cultural week. In that day we did some Filipino games. We played 3 games, Tumbang Preso, Chinese Garter and Patintero. Here are the rules and how to play each game.
Tumbang Preso:
In English 'Knock down the Prisoner', also known as Tumbang Lata 'Knock down the can' or Bato Lata 'Hit the can with a stone'. It is a traditional Filipino children's game, where you get shoes or slipper and try to knock the can down. There is a person that is 'it' and but to decide which person is 'it' the people need to throw there slipper or shoes. The one which is the furthest is the person that is it.
So what the other people are supposed to do is simply knock down the can. When you throw the slipper/shoes you need to quickly retrieve before the tagger/it tag's you. But if you cannot retrieve the slipper, another person will help retrieve it by throwing the slipper. As for the tagger/it, if a slipper lands close to the can, they have to put one of their foot on the can and the other on the slipper near the can. If you get tagged by the tagger/it you will become the new tagger.
Chinese Garter:
As you can see from the title it says Chinese, but this isn't from China. Chinese Garter is a Philippine traditional game. In this game, you will need to be flexible and you need to be able to jump quite high. So the first thing is we need to have garter or a string, you will need one or you can get one whole string and connect it together to get two strings.
The objective of the game is to crosswise over the garter without being tripped. The Chinese Garter is generally subdivided into ten levels.
Level 1: The garter is near the ground.
Level 2: Knee High
Level 3: Around the height of the hips
Level 4: Waist High
Level 5: Chest High
Level 6: Shoulder High
Level 7: Head High
Level 8: At the tip of the head
Level 9: A couple centimetres over the head.
Level 10: Also known as the mother/father jump, as high as a child raising his/her arms high on tippy toes.
Patintero:
Credit: Go Outside and Movement
Patintero is played on a rectangular grid drawn into the ground. The rectangle is usually 5 to 6 m (16 to 20 ft) in length, and 4 m (13 ft) wide. It is subdivided into four to six equal parts by drawing a central lengthwise line and then one or two crosswise lines. The size of the rectangle and the number of subdivisions can be adjusted based on the number of players. The individual squares in the grid must be large enough that someone can stay in the middle out of reach of someone standing on the lines.
Now you need a few taggers that will go in the line, they cannot move from the line, they can only move sideways. The objective of the game is to run back and forth in the rectangle without getting tagged.
