THE 2017 WRAP UP!

It's a little bit late for this wrap up, beacuse it is already 2018, but we still got time right.  It is also my last year in Hornby Primary.  So lets get started on Term 1, let's see what did happen in term 1, well let's go and see.

Term 1:
In Term 1, we visited Spencer park to do some activities, and collect some things for our treasure art back at school.  I was really excited since we were also gonna go to the beach.  But whne it started my group didn't get to collect any since the teacher that was with us thought we were gonna go back again.  We also got to play on the park play volleyball and explore.  So when we got back to school my group had to go and collect some at school.  So I picked everything and started on my art, after I finished it which was in about 2 days it looked like this.

Reading; In reading for term 1 we learned about the Maori traditional games, we had to get in group of 2 and pick which game you would like to do.  My partner and I did a DLO revolving around how to make string figures, like a broomstick our DLO turned out like this.

We also did some traditional and cultural dances, like the "Samoan Sasa" and the "Super Haka with the Ti Rakau Sticks".
Term 2:
In Term 2 we did a mystery research, there we here a lot of topic, so first what we did was we had to pick a topic and do some research about it.  Then after the research we had to get in groups and create some about the topic.  My topic was about Easter Island, Easter Island's mystery was the statue's called Moai.  We also had to write speeches about our creations. My group did a whole island made out of cardboard.  We also made a mountain out of paper mache it was really fun and also very challenging.

We also did a lot of activities on our topic like a timeline. But the main mystery in Easter Island was how the Moai/statue's was built.  Eventually we didn't find out the answer.

Term 3:
Term 3 was an amazing term we had an extravaganza, the year 6's was lucky to have an extravaganza since the other year 6's didn't have one.  So our theme was NZ Past to present, and my class did NZ Music Month.  We listened to some music from the 1900's to 2000's, then we had to pick which song are we going to and then get into groups.  I pick 6 months in a leaky boat, the music was good and the tune was also very good, it was also easy to dance to.  Then at the end of our performance we had to get on the stage again and the most voted song which is called Why does love do this to me.  So then we had to dance to it.  It was a fun and crazy performance.  So then I had another performance and it was about culture, I had a group, amd we dance Tinikling (from Philippines),
(Sorry Don't have any pictures)

We also learned something about binary numbers.

Reading: In reading we did a novel study there were 4 choices. Holes, Among the hidden, Freak the might, Number the Stars.  I picked Among the hidden because it had a very attractive tittle.  So then we had to do some activities like doing a character description and many other things we had to finish our reading early because of the extravaganza.

Term 4:
Term 4, which is in the season of summer, that means there is swimming.  So first we are going to Canterbury Swim School for swimming lesson.  We did that for 2 weeks and then took swimming lessons at school.

We also had an Athletics day, there were basic activities like sprints and high jump.  I put up a post about this, here is a link

Writing:
In writing we had to pick a topic of our own and do some research about your topic I picked pyramids.  So then it probably took about 3-4 weeks to complete the whole research.

Fathers Day

"Happy Fathers Day, To all Dads."  It is fathers day!  This Sunday me and my sister celebrated fathers day with my Dad and my mum.  We went to Samurai Bowl to eat some yummy noodles and some teriyaki chicken with some rice.  After we ate we went to Papanui High School to watch my dad play basketball.  Unfortunately my dad's team didn't win, the score was 42 - 49.  After the game we went back home to rest.
I also took some pictures of my Dad, my sister and I.  Here are the photos....

Have a Great Fathers Day and be nice to your parents. 💖

Sculpture

2 weeks ago Ako Ngatahi and some other classes went to Spencer Park to have a fun day of learning and collecting sea treasures.  When we got back to school we had to make an sculpture with our treasures, I didn't collect any treasure because I buried it.  But I collected some at school and I traded something with somebody.  This was inspired by a shooting star in the night sky.   There is a starfish in the middle representing the star.  The flax are representing the hands of the star.  As you can see there is one rock in the middle and two barks in the side of the rocks which is a part to hold the star,

I call it octustar because it looks like a octopus and a starfish at the same time.

W.A.L.T: Solve subtraction problems by adding

This week in my class I have been learning how to solve subtraction problems by adding. I have made I DLO which means digital learning object.  This a stage 5 strategy, I understand this strategy very well.  My next step is use bigger numbers using this strategy.

  • Each paragraph focuses on a different aspect of the topic; travelling, the beach, the lagoon walk, playground.
  • A general statement about the topic usually rounds off the report.

The Amazing Trip to Learning
On the Friday 10th of March, Ako Ngatahi travelled to Spencer Park to have a fun day of learning.  I was so excited to go to Spencer park,  I couldn’t wait to go on the bus to explore other places.  It was a great day to go out for the trip the sun was shining and there was not a cloud in sight

There were 105 people who came to Spencer park to collect some treasure for art.  At school we had to get in groups, I was in group 2.  After that we had to get ready for our trip.

So after a while our teacher called us to go on the mat and then grab our bags to go line up.  Next we walked to the court to sort out the groups.  Second we walked to the bus.  In the bus I sit with Ryleigh and talked and we played fun games until we got to Spencer park.

Once we arrived at Spencer Park we had to sort out groups and where we are going.  We also had to go in alphabetic groups with parents and some of the teachers.  It was time to begin our journey I picked up my bag and the teacher gave us instructions.

We gently walked to the road.  When we were walking we saw some cool trees, one was shaped like an umbrella and another one looked like a human.  Once we got to the beach we walked on sand it felt like you were sinking in sand.  We put our bags in the sand and we explored.  I played with Ranit because I had no friends there.  We found some shells and buried it so we can get it again.  We also found a blue bottle jellyfish I was quite scared because I heard that it could sting you but it didn’t do anything. Next me and Ran It It found a big piece of wood we put it on top of the buried shells.  Then Ranit said to look behind me and his friend was holding a seaweed behind me I ran so fast I it made me have goosebumps.  Next the teacher said we had to go back.  So we gently trudge back to Spencer Park.

When we got back to Spencer Park, we had morning tea and we had a little play on the playground.  I was playing on the big red spider web I was quite sacred but I learnt to conquer my fears.  After a long time of climbing I finally reached the top of the big red spider web.  After a long climb I decided to play with Ranit on the zip line.  I ran to zip line no one was there except Ranit and I, I climbed up the zip line and Ran It pushed me when I got to the tyres I swung up into the air.  I jumped down and pulled it to Ranit, he jumped and I pushed him until he got to the tyres.  He jumped down and we both ran back to the teacher because we now had to go the Lagoon walk.

Ranit and I grabbed our bags and walked to Adrenaline Forest and walked near the Lagoon we walked until we reached sand, now we were walking in sand it felt like I was sinking, it was also really hot.  We stopped at front of the signs we didn’t know where to go so we headed left.  After hiking for a few minutes I realised that we were no longer walking on sand, we stopped at the end and realized that we had headed the wrong way.  So we decided to take a rest for few minutes and went back.  We gently trudge back to spencer park.

Once we got back we went to the bird lookout. Ranit and I quickly climbed up the ladder. We saw 2 kinds of birds it looked like a Tui, it was very far away so I couldn’t see that well.  Next we walked back to Spencer Park to have lunch.

My lunch was 2 oranges 6 donuts and popcorn.  After that we went to play in the playground. I played with Ranit for half an hour and then I saw my friend from another school.

Lastly we went back to school, I learned some cool and amazing things from the park I learned to not touched a blue bottle jellyfish because it might sting you.  My favourite part of the day was going to the beach.  The Lagoon walk and the playground was fun but I liked the Beach much more.

My Special Gift

W.A.L.T:  Write a narrative

Success Criteria
I know I will be successful when….

  • The title is suitable for the text.
  • The orientation tells who the story is about, and when and where the story happened.
  • The complication describes a problem and explains what happened next.
  • The resolution explains how the problem was solved.
  • Seeks feedback and makes changes to texts to improve clarity and meaning.

In Ako Ngatahi we had to write a narrative about a video. It was about a boy opening a present that was a dog with three legs. Here is the video of the present. I hope you enjoy my story.

My Special Gift

It was Saturday morning I just woke up from my amazing dream, I brushed my teeth and I took a bath.  I went downstairs to eat breakfast, “Mmm bacon and eggs.” I said. After I ate my breakfast I rushed downstairs to play my favourite game.  I closed the blinds because it was so bright.

I opened the t.v and started playing with my xbox, then my Mum came in with a box, “Darling would you stop playing and open the present.” she said.   She opened the blinds, It was really bright. I just realized that my mum had a new haircut and some new clothes.

Ring!!! Ring!! The phone is ringing.  My mum answered “ Hello!”  When she was gone I opened the box then suddenly a puppy popped out. The dog had a big black nose and a cute face, I picked him and I was really disappointed and angry for a moment there, because he had only 3 legs.

I threw the dog in the ground. Because I didn't want a dog that has three legs.  Then he saw a ball under a table he rolled it to me, but I kicked it to the box, the dog chased after it he crashed into the box he couldn’t see anything. He bumped  to the drawer near the T.V I kinda laughed because he was so silly and funny.

He brought the ball really quickly to me.  I realized that you don't have to perfect.  So I picked the ball and I grabbed my crutches and I put the ball in my pocket.  Me and my dog walked to the door and opened it and I said to my mum that me and my new dog were going outside. It was good to have a friends that was just like me.

I learnt to never judge someone by how they look.

Children's Day 2017

Children's day was celebrated every first Sunday of March, today March 5 we went to New Brighton Road to celebrate children's day with my family. There were lots of fun activities like music, food and mostly games.  It took 45 minutes to fall in line in one game.  When I finally got my turn at the aqua boat, It was really fun I keep on bumping to the sides. I also got my face painting and a picture with a bee mascot.

I learned to be a little bit more patience as I need to wait for my turn in every activities there.  These are one of the memorable days with my family especially with my little sister that I always treasure in my life.
Here are my pictures
