Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 2 • Day 1- Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, I yet doing another post for the Summer Learning Journey. Though I have missed out on a lot, I will try my best to catch up. Now... Onto the post.

Activity 3: 'DEAR JACINDA'

The Right Honorable Jacinda Ardern is the current Prime Minister (PM) of New Zeland (NZ). You might have heard of her because she's in the news a lot! Did you know that she is the second youngest person and the second woman ever to be elected PM of NZ?

As PM, Jacinda Ardern makes several important decisions every day. Before she makes these important decisions, she meets with many people to hear her ideas and get their perspectives (views) on issues.

Let's imagine you were to write a letter to Jacinda Ardern about an issue that is really important to you and to ask her for help. It could be something serious to do with education, health or welfare, or it could be something more fun and crazy -  you decide!

For this activity, we had to write a letter that includes the issue that we have chosen and what we would like Jacinda Ardern to do about it.

I have chosen to write a letter about Climate Change and Global Warming.

_____

Jacinda Ardern

First of all, I just want to say thank you for being a great leader and always helping out others. But for now, I would like to talk about a serious issue in the world.

Climate Change

Climate Change is a serious issue because it affects the well-being of our planet and our future. It also affects animal life and our weather pattern. Climate Change will also affect the sea level and the arctic ocean will likely become ice-free.

In my opinion, we should lessen our green-house gas emissions, use less electricity and try to walk, ride a bike or scooter often. I think these are some of the things that we should start doing. Because I know it will help reduce gas emissions.

Using renewable energy rather than using fossil fuels is a good idea because you don't have to burn any fossil fuels. The same with riding a bike and walking, driving a car to school or anywhere else will add more to the gas emissions we are already making.

These actions have a big impact and they will lessen the effects of climate change. If we do not act fast then, our weather will change drastically and the fires in Australia will be worse.

Jacinda Ardern, I would like you to put more grass areas into our roads for people to walk in, to lessen the price of solar panel because they are quite expensive. I would also like you to plant more trees.

Thank you for reading this.

Sincerely

The Death Valley

A new theme of writing and the theme was the ridge, It was about this man called Danny Macaskill, "Oops no spoilers."  The story was really cool and he had done amazing things he had been riding his mountain bike through ravishing mountain with sharp rocks.
I Hope you will like reading my story!

“The Ridge”
W.A.L.T: write a narrative through the eyes of Buster

Success Criteria
We need to focus on these things
  • Full stops, capital letters,
  • Paragraphs
  • Speech Marks (new line for each speaker)

I was rowing my vessel, I was getting ready in my venturesome journey.  Through the frigid water with my bewildering mountain bike.  My name was Danny Macaskill my challenge was to ride my bike through the rough mountains of Scotland, I paddle through through the frigid river with my . The river was like a mirror, the mountain was as tall as Mount Everest.  As he arrived at the mendacious mountains, I was feeling unfazed and ready to face my eerie challenge.

I stepped out of my diminutive boat, I carried my sensational mountain bike.  I was walking through the astounding beach until he found I terminus, I scurried over and got ready for my fearsome challenge.  It finally began, I raced through the deep valleys of the death valley.  Walking up the sharp rocks was the hardest thing, it has scarred me of my skin.  But I remembered that I need to be resilient, and never give up.

I had climbed up the first mountain it was as sharp as a shark's teeth.  Next thing I knew I was riding with the wind, it felt so good to ride the bike up in these sharp and treacherous mountains.  It wasn’t like other mountains it had beautiful waterfalls with ravishing hills.  I went through tge forest it was raging waterfalls falling from the top.  I saw trees growing with aesthetic flowers.

It was finally time to ride one more time I looked up in the sky, the sky was as beautiful as as flower blossoming.  I saw the tallest mountain,I thought that I would ride it so I climbed up and it took a pretty long time.  I had finally arrived at the top of the mountain.  I had goosebumps but I wanted to do it at the same time to I conquered the mountain and raced down.  It was a good feeling I finally did what I wanted to do, it was to ride with the wind.

I was at the bottom of the mountain, I knew it was time to go, I went down to get to my boat.  But I saw that I had taken myself into another world and it is paradise.

                      First Draft

The worst day in the whole history

It was a sunny day in africa it was 12 November. Mum, Dad,I and my dad’s herd of buffaloes were walking in the bright sun near the lake in Africa  .I was walking with my mum because I was to scared to be in the front,  anyway I am just a calf.  I wanted to get a drink but my dad said no,  I was really thirsty. Then an idea flew into my head I sneaked near the lake to get a drink then I suddenly saw lions resting in the flaming hot sun then my dad suddenly stopped could this be my  last drink .

I spotted some lions crouching near us, I was quite scared.  I knew what I had to do but suddenly the lions ran in surprise, my dad said run for your life ,I ran as as quick as I can, but  the lions separated me from my dad and his herd of buffaloes. Once they got me I crashed into the cold and shiny water ,they kept on chewing and chewing on, me the pain was going threw my body and threw my veins.

The lions chewed and chewed on me but there was no blood coming out of my body.  I see my biggest fear in the world, I feel so fearful I have  never ever felt like this before it was a  crocodile!!!!!!! pulling my leg, I felt that they are having a tug war. The pride of lions kept on pulling me when the crocodile bit my leg ,It really hurt.  My 2 feared animals kept on pulling me ,they never give up I wish I had my dad and his herd of buffaloes to help me in this terrible situation.

I smell fear in the way the, lions razor sharp teeth bit my leg, the taste of pain filled my body ,as I hear sounds of lions roaring, I feel the cold water shaking like there is an earthquake about to strike. I see a pride of lions and a hungry  crocodile trying to chew me. I couldn’t ,move a muscle I felt like I am being pulled by a giant lion.  I never felt so alone before ,the bright sun flew past my eyes, the pride of lions pulled me out of the cold and frightful deps of the lake.

Then I heard lots stomping, it was my Dad and my Mum with their herd of buffaloes they came to save me I yelled MOOOOOOOO!! and they heard me. The crocodile let go and swam away, my dad scared the pride of lions away the one of the lions stayed and kept on chewing me my uncle frightened the other lion  then I one lion ran away,  I escaped my dad and his herd of buffaloes saved me.

I feel so excited that the battle has ended I am finally with my family and their herd of buffaloes.
