Character Strengths - Film Study

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post! Today in film study we were doing our independent work and for that, we had to make something that identifies Coraline and another character's strengths. As the second character, I chose to do the cat, because it was necessary to do Coraline.

↳ Coraline:

     Curiosity: Coraline has a great amount of curiosity, it is one of her most important traits. Because it is one of the traits that led her into the other world. She was the one who went out and explored the pink palace and found the door that led to the other world. She also showed this trait at the start where she was searching for the well.

     - This is important because her curiosity led her to the other world and at the start where she found the well, she used it to trap the other mother's hand in it.

     Bravery: Coraline has a very strong sense of bravery, because of that it leads her in able to save her family and friend she meats along the way. She shows this by working with the cat to go against the other mother.

     - This strength is important because she needed her bravery to stand up against the other mother and her minions.

     Perseverance: This trait was shown near the ending of the movie when she was looking for the eyes. When she was looking she tried her best even though it got quite hard for her when the other mother played tricks on her.

     - This is important because she needed to persevere to go against the other mother.

↳ The Other Mother (The Beldam)

     Honesty: The other mother lacks honesty, she has lied to Coraline about the other world and had played Coraline in her quest to save her family and the 3 ghosts. She lied to Coraline about her personality and how she was her other mother, while in reality, she's actually just a soul-eating spider.

     - This is important because the other mother's dishonesty effects Coraline's life and how lives in it, but at the same time, it supports Coraline's personality growth.

     Kindness: The other mother lacks kindness, though she did pretend to be kind to Coraline at the start it was all just a facade. This happens when Coraline disobeys her and she locks her up in the mirror and after that, she continues to act harshly to Coraline.

     - This important because it shows an important theme in the movie 'Looks Can be deceiving'. It also shows the other mothers horrible personality and how cruel she is.

     Creativity: The other mother has an abundant amount of creativity, even though she was the enemy. The other mother created the other world to be a better place than the real world and it worked because it was very colourful and decorative in the other world.

     - This is important because she created a world that successfully lured Coraline in and made Coraline want to stay.
