Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. Today I will be doing another activity for the Summer Learning Journey. Enjoy!
Activity 2: IMOKO
Dr Lance O'Sullivan is a Māori doctor who lives in Kaitaia, Northland. He ha committed his life to improve the health and well-being of both his patients and people in the local community. In 2014 he was named New Zealander of the Year.
Together, Lance and his wife, Tracy, have started some very cool projects in New Zealand including affordable clinics, the Kāinga Ora (healthy homes) initiative and the MOKO Foundation. The MOKO Foundation provides healthcare for students in school-based clinics. He has also started iMOKO, a digital initiative (programme) whereby people living in communities without doctors, in Kaitaia. The doctors look at the photos, provide advice and can send a script to the local pharmacy so that the patient can get medicine. This programme is improving the health and well-being of people living in rural Northland.
For this activity, we had to share five things that we or the people in our family do to stay healthy and strong.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Kia Ora Lyan,
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Gargee and I am a student commenter for the Ako Hiko cluster. I was looking around other clusters to check out their awesome learning for the Summer Learning Journey, and I decided to have a peep around your blog!
I think you've done an absolutely amazing job with this activity! From the sound of it; you seem very healthy. I find it incredible that you still maintain these healthy habits while the holidays are going on, Ka Pai! For me, the holidays really does mess up my schedule, and sometimes I end up going to bed hours and hours past my normal bedtime and waking up really late.
That is so awesome that you have eaten vegetables for 4 days this week! I need to learn something from you! You are so fantastic to go out and exercise with your dad and dance. I'd love to see some of your dance moves!
Well done for keeping a great hygiene routine and eat a sufficient amount of food :).
Have a wonderful holidays,
~ Gargee :D
Hi Gargee! Thank you for your lovely comment. I hope you are getting enough sleep, with that please also eat enough food. I hope you are having a great day so far. Once again thank you for your comment!
DeleteHey Lyan,
ReplyDeleteMikey here. Congratulations on completing another activity! I know the summer holidays can be a busy time so I'm so pleased that you're continuing to work on the programme. He whetū koe! :) (You're a star!)
What a great post! I really like the background colour you've used in your poster - it really makes it pop! It sounds like you lead quite a healthy lifestyle. I'm glad you include sleep on your list - sometimes people forget just how important it is to have a good nights sleep. That's awesome to hear that you and your dad go running together. I always struggle to motivate myself to go for a run - maybe I need a running buddy too! :) Do you and your dad do anything else to stay fit and active?
Have a wonderful afternoon, Lyan. Keep the Summer Learning Journey posts coming! :)
Mā te wā,
Mikey
Hi Mikey! Sometimes my family and I go swimming and that really keeps my family and I fit. We also sometimes play some basketball. A way to motivate yourself is to get a good night's sleep and then wake up early the next morning. This always motivates me to be productive. Thank you for your lovely comment. I hope you are having a great day!
DeleteHi Lyan,
DeleteThose are some great family activities. Who's usually in your team when you play basketball?
That's a good idea! I'm probably guilty of not getting to bed as early as I should. Thanks for the tip! :)
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment, Lyan. Have a lovely afternoon. :)
Bye for now,
Mikey
Hi Mikey! I normally go into a team with my dad and little sister. Then we go against my dad's friends. I also have to thank you, for commenting on my blog and giving me lots of feedback. Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest of your afternoon!
DeleteKia ora Lyan,
DeleteYou are more than welcome. I'm so glad that I'm able to read your blog posts. :)
Fun! Who usually wins? I never really got into playing basketball but I do like going to live games. Do you like watching basketball too? Or just playing it?
Have a wonderful weekend, Lyan.
Blog ya later!
Mikey :)
