Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 4 • Day 4 - Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post! Today I will be doing another activity for the Summer Learning Journey. Enjoy!

If you did not know the Summer Learning Journey is a holiday programme. The main reason why it started is to prevent the Summer Slump. The Summer Slump happens when you fall behind in your learning. In my opinion, SLJ is a really great programme to do so that you can keep up with your work.

Activity 3: TOP SECRET STREET ART

"Banksy" is a street artist from England. He is a very private and secretive. In fact, almost no one knows who he really is - he always creates his art in secret!

Street art, or grafitti art, is all around us. Sometimes the art tells a story, sometimes it makes a building look more interesting, and sometimes it makes us think hard.

There is a lot of amazing street art in the city of Christchurch.

For this activity we had to look at the Christchurch Street Art website and then choose two different pieces of artwork. Then we had to explain what is similar and different between the two pieces of art.

Art by: Anne McDonald

Art by: Tepid
Similarities between the two:
- They both have an animals in their art.
- They express bold and different colours.
- They are both very colourful.

Difference between the two:
- One is bigger and one is smaller.
- The second one gives off the feeling of forests and fruits.
- The first one gives the off the feeling of unusualness.
- One has a word in it.
- The first one represents being who you are and having pride in who you are. ( In my opinion )
- The second represents being in the wild and searching for food. ( In my opinion )

  1. Hello Lyan,
Whew! Can you believe it? The Summer Learning Journey is nearly coming to an end. Although it is coming to an end you are so close to finishing the entire Summer Learning Journey. Only three more activities to go! I really enjoyed reading this blog post! Let me explain why I like it. Firstly, you added things about your opinion. Secondly, you added lots of differences and similarities. I am horrible at art. I think I am getting slightly better, but not a lot. Maybe next time you could say how hard you found this activity. Overall, this is a phenomenal blog post! Keep up the astonishing work!

  2. Kia ora Lyan! Olive here from the Kaikohekohe Cluster! How are you doing today? I'm super excited to read your posts!

Well done on completing this activity! I really enjoyed reading about the differences and similarities between these two different paintings. You've put a lot of descriptive detail into your work. Ka pai. Do you do much art? I really enjoy painting! Recently I'm trying out painting on fabric! I love painting on jeans. It's so cool figuring out layers of paint, mixing colours and making the ordinary into extraordinary!

Remember the end of the Summer Learning Journey is this Friday 24th January! Keep up the blogging, commenting and enthusiasm!

    Ngā mihi,
    Olive

  3. Kia ora Lyan,

Great work on completing another Summer Learning Journey activity. There is only one more day left to get those activities done and gain those points so keep blogging and commenting.

I think street art is so cool. It must take a lot of imagination and creativity to come up with the amazing images these artists create. I like your interpretations of the different art works. I have to agree about the meaning of pride behind the first artwork. Do you think it would be easier or harder using a spray can to create art rather than a usual brush or pencil?

Until next time, happy blogging :)
