Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 3 • Day 4 - Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post, today I will be doing another activity for the Summer Learning Journey. Enjoy!

Activity 3: PUTTING OUR HEADS TOGETHER

Health is a complex and complicated topic. Most people believe that there are many dimensions (areas) of health -  physical health, social health, mental help, emotional health, etc. Mental health is an area that is not often discussed. It is basically the way we think and feels about ourselves and the world around us. Sometimes our mental health can be affected by things that have happened in our lives, or by changes in our brains that we cannot control.

Here in New Zealand, people like Mike King and John Kirwan have made the choice to speak publicly about the mental health challenges that they face. Overseas, people like The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have joined the discussion about mental health and, like John and Mike, started a foundation to support people who are struggling with mental health challenges.

John Kirwan started the John Kirwan Foundation in 2018. Mike King founded The Key to Life Foundation, the I Am Hope and the Gumboot Friday campaigns while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started the Heads Together foundation in 2017. In each case, these foundations serve an important role in the community.

For this activity, we had to imagine that John Kirwan, Mike King and/or the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called us up and asked to design a new poster for their organisation. After making the poster, we had to include a description of the poster, what is on the poster and why we included what we put.
For the first picture (head, with clouds) I drew it because to me it explains a little bit about how a person may feel inside. In the remaining photos, I drew them because these are the things that make me happy.

1. Music - I love to listen to music and I have recently been learning piano.
2. Nature - Third picture was about nature and the universe how each of them connects to each other.

  1. Hey Lyan!

It's me again - wow, what an amazing poster, this is so cool!

I love the illustrations, you're a very talented drawer and have some awesome artistic skills - I especially like the visual you drew to represent music! Music is easily one of my favourite things in the World. I play piano too! So fun!

You've also included some great information about The Key To Life, who they are and what it is they do. I also like that you've given a bit of a background of the activity and what the task is, that can be super helpful for your viewers :)

If you were looking for ways to make improvements, it'd be a pretty cool idea to add a link on your post to The Key to Life's website so people can get more information and possibly even donate :)

Fantastic work Lyan, have an awesome night. I can't wait to see more great work from you in the future!
