Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 2 • Day 3 - Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post. So for today, I will be doing another Summer Learning Journey activity. Enjoy!

Activity 3: BELLE OF THE BALL

Emma Watson is a movie star who started acting in films when she was just nine years old. You might now recognise her as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films or 'Belle' from the Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

When Emma is not acting, she spends a lot of time giving speeches and advocating for the rights of women and girls. In 2014 she launched the HeForShe campaign which encourages men and boys to actively support women and girls by speaking ours about gender equality - the idea that males (men) and females (women) have the same rights. Emma is also an avid reading who started her own worldwide book club.

Let's imagine that Emma ha just emailed you and asked for your help. She needs a recommendation for her great book club. She also needs you to prepare a short review of the book to share with her readers.

For this activity, we had to choose a book that we like and then write a short review about it. We also had to include why we liked that book, with a photo or illustration of the book.

The book I have chosen is called 'Love under Manhattan'. I have chosen this book because I have read ut recently and I really liked the plot of the book and what the book is about. The book is about a girl who works as a dog walker and a dog owner. They're names are Harriet and Ethan. Through the book they both fall in love with each other and problems arise, aside from that the ending is very heartwarming and inspiring.

  1. Hey Lyan!

I'm Natasha. I'm going to be checking out some of your Summer Learning Journey blog posts throughout the holidays and hopefully giving you a bit of helpful feedback :)

This is a wonderfully written post Lyan! You've included a ton of great information regarding Emma Watson - I had no idea about the HeForShe campaign, or even the fact that she had a worldwide book club! I also like that you've included a photo of the book you've chosen to recommend.

It sounds like a great book, I might have to read it one day! If at any point you are in need of new ways to improve your posts, you could consider embedding a youtube video. For example, upon looking further into the HeForShe campaign via the link you included (well done on that!) I found that Emma made a speech about it at the UN - that would be an awesome thing to include, just for future reference :)

What do you think about the idea of a global book club? Would you ever join?

Once again, amazing work Lyan. Have a great night, enjoy the rest of your holiday and I look forward to seeing more spectacular posts soon :)
