Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 4 • Day 2 - Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post! Today I will be doing another post for the Summer Learning Journey. If you did not know the Summer Learning Journey is a holiday programme. The main reason why it started is to prevent the Summer Slump. The Summer Slump happens when you fall behind in your learning. In my opinion, SLJ is a really great programme to do so that you can keep up with your work.

Activity 3:

Jessica Mauboy is an Aboriginal Australian singer. She was runner-up in the 2006 Australian Idol and has gone on to record a number of very successful songs.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is a Māori opera singer from Aotearoa, New Zealand. She became one of the best sopranos ( a female singer with a high voice) in the world.

Both of these singers are role models.

For this activity, we had to choose a role model then write about why we think that person is a role model.

I have loved reading your posts .. they are all great, you have shown such research and knowledge. What else did you find out about Kiri Te Kanawa? For example, is she still alive? What and where is the performance venue that now bears her name? Great work.

    1. Hi Mr Sutton! I have recently found out that she is around 75 years old and it really surprised me. I have listened to some of her performances and it was amazing. Her voice was great and held many emotions to it. I am pretty sure Aotea Centre has a theatre named Kiri Te Kanawa. Thank you for your lovely comment! Please have a great day!

  3. Kia ora Lyan,

Great work on completing another Summer Learning Journey activity. There is only one more week left to get those activities done and gain those points so keep blogging and commenting.

I like the bright and inviting poster you have created to display your activity answer on. I think Elizabeth Garret Anderson is a fantastic person to chose for this activity. I hadn't heard of her before so you have taught me a lot today. If I remember rightly, in another post did you mention you'd like to be in the medical field yourself in the future? It's sounds like you are a great role model too Lyan.

Until next time, happy blogging :)
