Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020 • Week 4 • Day 3 - Activity 3

Hi everyone! Welcome to another post!  Today I will be doing another post for the Summer Learning Journey. If you did not know the Summer Learning Journey is a holiday programme. The main reason why it started is to prevent the Summer Slump. The Summer Slump happens when you fall behind in your learning. In my opinion, SLJ is a really great programme to do so that you can keep up with your work.

Activity 3: FEAST OR FAMINE

Julian Dennison is a very funny guy! He is from Lower Hutt, near Wellington. He is only 17 years old but he has already starred in a number of movies and TV commercials. You may have seen him on Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Deadpool, or in the Lynx ads.

Julian is not only a funny actor. He recently joined up with World Vision to be a 40 Hour Famine Ambassador. He travelled with World Vision to Uganda to meet some of the refugees from South Sudan who are living there. Check out this video.

For this activity, we had to tell if we would consider doing a 20 or 40-hour famine.

____

I have actually done a 40-Hour Famine back in 2018, from what I remember it was really fun and I got to meet new people. I did the 40-Hour no Technology because I go on my phone often and it was really hard for me to do. I did this because I really want to help people improve their lives and live healthier. In that time my friends and I talked a lot and I made some origami. I faced a lot of challenges, one of them were being tempted to go on my phone. It was very hard but I succeeded. I raised around $100 dollars. It was very fun.

  1. Hello Lyan,
Vitaraag here from the Ako Hiko cluster. What an amazing blog post you have created. I specifically like how you told us what you gave up for the 20-40 Hour Famine. I also really like how you told us that you had raised 100$. I have went through many people's blog posts, but non of them have ever participating in the Famine. You are the first person I came across that has actually participated in the Famine. If I was in a famine I would probably give up devices. I think it wouldn't be to hard. Maybe next time you could tell us what you learned. Overall, this is a phenomenal blog post! Keep up the astonishing work!

  2. Hi there Lyan,

Great work on completing another Summer Learning Journey activity. There is only one more day left to get those activities done and gain those points so keep blogging and commenting.

The 40 hour famine can be hard as it seems like a long time at the time. I used to do it when I was younger however I would do the one where I couldn't eat any food which I found really hard as I do like eating. Wow, $100 is a lot of money going to those that really need it so well done. Would you do the 40 hour famine again and maybe try giving up something different?

Until next time, happy blogging :)
