Which other planets could we survive on? (part 1)

Hello, fellow people, for today's post, I am gonna tell you 10 planets that we can possibly live on. This means if Earth doesn't have any more resources, where else could we find the resource? Well, we're gonna find that out right now. Let's get started!

Number 10: Kepler 438b

Image result for kepler 438b
Information:
Kepler 438b is an exoplanet discovered in January 2015 and is located 470 light years away which is 29,723,306 Astronomical units (AU). Kepler 438b is one of the most Earth-like planets ever due to its similarity to Earth.

Why? Why is Kepler 438b one of the Earth-like planets?

Well, that is because Kepler 438b has 88% Earth similarity index (ESI). Kepler 438b is only 12% bigger than Earth and it receives 40% more light. Kepler 438b is similar to the temperature of  Earth, but it's much closer to its star (sun), a cooler Red Dwarf called Kepler 438, it takes 35 days (1 year, for Kepler 438b) Kepler 438b to fully orbit around its star.

But it also has it's up and downs, Kepler 438b doesn't have proper and the planets nearby star (sun) emit flares 10x times more powerful than our sun.

Number 9: Kepler 452b
Image result for kepler 452b

Information:
Kepler 452b was first discovered in July 2015 and is located  1,402 light years away which is 88,663,990 Astronomical Units (AU). Kepler 452b is also an exoplanet also known as super-Earth. Kepler 452b is around 5 times the size of Earth.

Why? Why is Kepler 452b one of the Earth-Like planets?

Because it is similar to the days in earth orbit, Earth makes a full orbit around our sun in 365 while Kepler 452b completes an orbit in 385 which is only 20 days away. Due it Kepler 452b's large size it has twice the gravity of Earth. Kepler 452b also receives more sun energy making it hotter than Earth, but it is still a good candidate for hosting life if we are able to get to Kepler 452b.

But it has its ups and downs. Kepler 452b is highly susceptible to the greenhouse effect. So it could become a giant ball of hot death by the time we got there.

Number 8: Proxima B
Image result for proxima b
Information:
Proxima B is an exoplanet and was the first discovered in August 2016 and is located 4.24 light years away which is equivalent to 268,142.17 Astronomical Units. Proxima B is only 30% bigger than Earth and 1 year equals 11 days to Proxima B so you would have frequent birthdays.

Why? Why is Proxima B one of the Earth-Like planets?

Because Proxima B has similarities and those are that Proxima B has water and has an Earth similarities index (ESI) of 0.87. But it also has its downside because Proxima B receives2% sunlight, and there are violent winds that are 2,000 times stronger than those on Earth. Proxima B orbits around the Habitable Zone of a star called Proxima Centauri.

Number 7: Kepler 186f
Image result for kepler 186f
Information:
Kepler 186f is an exoplanet discovered by the Kepler space observatory in April 2014. Kepler 186f is a rocky planet and it orbits near the outer rim of its sun habitable zone and nearly10% bigger than Earth. Kepler 186f is 557.7 light years away which is 35,269,549 Astronomical Units. One year to Kepler 186f consists of 130 days.

Why? Why is Kepler 186f one of the Earth-Like Planets?
Kepler 186f has almost the same radius and they have an earth similarity index (ESI) of  0.61. Kepler 186f only receives 33% of sunlight compared to earth this means the brightest day will be similar to evening time on earth. The gravity in Kepler 186f could be very similar to Earth and there is some possibility that it has an atmosphere that can help keep the water liquid form that is why scientist describes Kepler 186f as a cousin to earth.

But Kepler 186f rotates more slowly than earth, meaning one day could take weeks or even months. There is also a problem Kepler 186f might be tidally locked which means one side of the planet I always facing its star and the other side is covered in darkness.

Number 6: Kepler 62f

Image result for kepler 62fInformation
Kepler 62f is also known as a super earth and is discovered in April 2013. Kepler 62f orbits around a 7 billion-year-old star. Kepler 62f is 1.4 times larger than Earth, Kepler 62f takes 267 days to complete a full orbit around the sun. Kepler 62f is 1,207 light years which is 76,331,980 Astronomical units.

Why? Why is Kepler 62f one of the Earth-Like Planets?

Because Kepler 62f is an earthlike water world which contains oceans are at least ice, in either case, this planet is an excellent candidate for alien life and feasible for hosting human life. Kepler 62f receives 41% of sunlight compared to Earth, however, the planet may be tidally locked which again means one side is facing the hot sun while the other will be in complete darkness. So humans can only survive where the darkness and light meet (border) where the temperature is suitable to support life.

Number 5: Gliese 667cc

Information:
Gliese 667cc is actually the cousin of mars, and on this planet, you can see all the suns, in fact, this planet is part of the upper mentioned 3-star system which is 23.62 light years away which is 1,493,754.2 Astronomical Units. Gliese 667cc is 3.8 the size of Earth and was first discovered in November 2011. Gliese 667cc make a full orbit around its sun (sun's) in 28 days.

Why? Why is Gliese 667cc one of the Earth-Like planets?

Gliese 667cc has a rocky surface and it has an 85% similarity to earth. It's on the slight hot edge of the habitable with temperatures ranging in 254.3k or negative 18 points 8 degrees Celsius and it receives the 90% of the light of the light of Earth. Gliese 667cc might be tidally locked, one side of the planet is shrouded in eternal darkness while the other is continuously facing toward the red dwarf. It's believed that between these hemispheres there is a probable chance to get an area of suitable temperature that will support human life.

Number 4: Kepler 62e

Information:
Kepler 62e is a super-earth exo-planet, discovered in April 2013 and located 1,200 light years away which is 75,889,283 Astronomical Units. Kepler 62e is 1.6 times larger than earth and orbits around the habitable zone of star called Kepler 62. One year in Kepler 62e consists of 122 days.

Why? Why is Kepler 62e one of the Earth-Like planets?
Because Kepler 62e has a rocky surface with a high probability of water and may be covered with oceans. Its earth similarity index (ESI) is about 0.83.

Number 3: Gliese 581g

Information:
Gliese 581g also known as Zarmina, first discovered by an astronomer named Stephen Vogt in 2010 and is located 20 light years away which is 1,264,812.5 Astronomical Units. Its one years lasts for 67 days, Gliese 581g orbits around the habitable zone of a star called Gliese 581. Gliese 581g is also a super-Earth (exoplanet) meaning it is bigger than earth, Gliese 581g is only 1.5 times bigger than earth.

Why? Why is Gliese 581g one of the earth-like planets?
Though Gliese 581g is tidally locked with the sun if a strong atmosphere exists on the planet it could circulate the heat from the sunny side onto the dark side making it much making it much more habitable. Hence it is possible for water to exist there with at least one ocean. Gliese 581g has temperatures between negative 35 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit due to the weaker energy output from its small sun. All these features increase the chances of life in Gliese 581g up to 100% which is an extremely optimistic presumption number.

Number 2: Kepler 22b
Image result for kepler 22b

Information:
Kepler 22b is an exoplanet that orbits the inner edge of suns habitable zone. Kepler 22b was first discovered in December 2011 and is located 600 light years away which is 37,944,464 Astronomical Units. Kepler 22b is twice the size of earth and its year consist of 290 days.

Why? Why is Kepler 22b one of the Earth-like planets?
though the temperatures in Kepler 22b is about negative 11 degrees Celcius in the worst case while 22 degrees Celcius in the best case so it's reasonable for humanity to survive here. But it won't be a similar experience to earth, Kepler 22B's outer shell is likely to be composed mostly of either liquid or gas. The most optimistic estimate is that its liquid water combined with the greenhouse effect the atmosphere it likely keeps the planet at a suitable temperature. If something happens to the earth, this water-rich planet is the place where we will probably move to because it is a prime contender for our next homeworld. If we arrived there in the future there is a high possibility we will be encountered by a lot of possible alien life that may have evolved in the outer liquid layer.

Okay, so that is it for part 1 now if you want to know what number 1 try to guess it. I have a hint: It is in our solar system. Hope you enjoy and I hope you learnt something. Stay tuned for the next blog post. BYE!

  1. Hey lyan, Really nice post. I am stuck on the last question but I am going to guess mars. Am I right? I am amazed about how you can write all that in a little amount of time. It would take me 2 days to complete something even close to that. I love the fact that you put a description about what you know about each plant. Great job!
