Writing! With who?

Hi everyone! So on Friday 13th of September, 8 lucky students got to go to speed date with 4 awesome authors. But we were not alone there were many students from different kinds of schools that surrounded the area. Us eight students from each class, Elisha Mae from Tz, Nici from Al, Jackson from Wh, Thalia from Ds, Emily from Ts, Bailey from Sh and myself in Mt. Anyways this event was held in Fendalton Library and was held for half of the school day.

There were four authors in total meaning there four sessions in total, one for each author. The author there was, Donovan Bixley Elissa Weissman,  Bill Nagelkerke and Daisy Lavea-Timo. They were all very nice and kind, they also gave us a lot of tips on how to write better and even create some cool characters.

In the first session, we had Donovan Bixley who both illustrates and writes stories, which I think is pretty cool. He thought us to make cool characters, just by making doodles. He also showed us a few doodles he did, after that we then showed us what the doodle looked like after he finished it. He was a very inspiring and kind person.

After that was our second session which was with Elissa Weissman who by the way is an extremely amazing writer. She taught us about narrative voice, we also made some cool stories. Narrative Voice - The 'Sound' of the story-, -The personality of the narrator-.

Then we took a little break, just to eat some food and prepare for the next session. While that was happening I was looking around with my friends, I have to say I really wanted to borrow a book from there. Unfortunately, we have a library at school and it would be a long way back just to return a book.

In the third session, we were with Bill Negelkerke, where he told about words and we also learned quite a few ancient greek words.

  1. Grapho - To Draw/Write - γρᾰ́φω
  2. Poites - Poet/Poetry - ποιητής
Last but not least our fourth session was with Daisy Lavea-Timo, who is by the way if you ever get to meet her she is very kind and welcoming. So for her, we learned to make cool poems and also learn about each other in the group.
