Summer Learning Journey 2018-2019 l Week 4 l Day 4 -Activity 3

Hello again fellow people, this one is the last activity until tomorrow where I will be finishing the programme. Anyways we shall now start!

WEEK 4: Protect and Preserve

DAY 4: Making Promises

Activity 3: Restricted Access [10 points]
While much of our programme has focused on New Zealand, it is important that we also consider the environment in other places as well. One of the most unusual and spectacular sites to visit outside of New Zealand is called Machu Picchu. It is an ancient city that was built high up in the mountains in the country of Peru in South America. You have to take a train and/or walk through a series of mountains and valleys to reach it.

Over the past few decades, millions of tourists have made the trek to Machu Picchu. Unfortunately, this has damaged the area and the local government has decided to restrict the number of visitors to the site each year. This decision has upset a lot of tourists who really want to see Machu Picchu but aren’t allowed to go.
On your blog, tell us what you think about the government’s decision to restrict the number of tourists able to visit this special site. Is it fair? Be sure to tell us why you feel the way that you do.
I think that it isn't fair because it is s a very famous place and people would want to go there. It is a very safe place and it has lots of places for people to be at. Though I also think it is fair because there is a lot of ancient stuff there and they are very fragile, they might be damaged due to the people around there.

  1. Hi Lyan, I really like your post about not ristricting tourists to visit Machu Picchu. In my opinion they shouldn't do that because its a famous place and heaps of people come there every day. Like what you said that it is safe. I hope that you finish day 5's activities. Have a cool day!! Bye!!

  2. Kumusta Lyan!

It's a tough decision, isn't it? Like you said, it's a very popular, very famous tourist attraction, but it is very old. As much as I'd like to travel to Machu Picchu one day, I agree with the local government. I assume that tourists don't intentionally damage the area but, unfortunately, it's still happening, and I think that if they continue to let masses of people visit then the city won't be around for future generations to enjoy. I guess the restriction just means that people will have to be extra organised and plan their trip well in advance. Would you like to visit Peru and Machu Picchu one day?

Well done on completing another activity Lyan. Keep up the great blogging! :)
