Summer Learning Journey 2018-2019 l Week 2 l Day 2 - Activity 3

Hey, again welcome to another blog post, hope you enjoy and learn something!

WEEK 1: A Place to Stand

DAY 2: Fabulous Flora

Activity 3: Stranger than Fiction [10 points + 5 possible points]
Here on earth, there are more than 298 000 different kinds (species) of plants. Some of these plants live on land and some live in the water. Follow this link to read about 10 of the strangest plant species in the world. When you are finished, choose two of the plants from the list.

On your blog, list three similarities and three differences between the two plants that you chose. To earn five extra bonus points, post a picture of both plants on your blog..

I chose the Corpse Flower and Rafflesia Arnoldii.
The Similarities
  • Both of the plants produce an irritating smell.
  • They both are in the same kingdom Plantae or plants.
  • They are both rare kind of plant species.
The Differences
  • The Corpse Flower can grow to 8.2 feet tall (which is about 2.499 metres) while the Rafflesia Arnoldii can only grow up to 3 feet which is round about 1 metre.
  • The Corpse Flower can only bloom only every 40 years.
  • The rafflesia Arnoldii can bloom in nine months and can hold the bloom for 1 week, while the Corpse flower can hold the bloom for 24 to 36 hours until collapses.

  1. Kia ora Lyan,

Wow! Those are two amazing looking plants! The middle part of the Corpse Flower reminds me of a cows tongue. Well done on comparing the two; you've shared some really interesting facts. Were you able to find out what part of the world they grow in?

    Blog ya later!

    Mikey :)
