Summer Learning Journey 2018-2019 l Week 3 l Day 1 -Activity 1 - 2

Hello, welcome to another week and post about the Summer Learning Journey. Christmas has just passed and 2018 is gonna end soon I hope you all are enjoying your holidays!

WEEK 3: Up, Up and Away

DAY 1: A Heated Debate

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies? [4 points]
New Zealand is a pretty lovely place to live, isn’t it? Apparently, New Zealand (NZ) is also a pretty lovely place to visit. In 2017 approximately 2-3 million people came to visit NZ as tourists. Some of them chose to come in the middle of our summer, while others braved it and came in the middle of winter! When do you think is the best time of year (season) to visit NZ?
If you would like some help making a decision, feel free to read the Go New Zealand website. It has lots of information about the seasons in NZ!
I, personally, encourage my friends and family from overseas to come and visit NZ in early spring. The weather is usually warm and dry and the tourist attractions, beaches and holiday spots are less busy than they are in the middle of summer.
On your blog, tell us what time of year you think is best for tourists to come and visit. Be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were here in NZ.
The time of year that tourist should come here is around November, December, January and February. Because they get to spend the Halloween here which is amazing and they also get to celebrate things like Christmas which is really nice because you get greeted with gifts lastly you get to celebrate New Year which is my favourite out of all of them because New Zealand is one of the first countries to celebrate the new year. Also because Auckland fires up amazing fireworks.
So for tourist to do they should visit the Franz Josep Glaciers, the Auckland Sky Tower, The Devil's Bath in Rotorua, Stargazing in Queenstown, Cave rock in Christchurch, and The Weta Cave in Wellington. These are only a few things, though it said only 3 New Zealand has amazing things that can be done, so I had to include them.
Activity 2: You are my Sunshine [4 points]

People in New Zealand love spending time outdoors. Unfortunately, the sun is very powerful and the rates of skin cancer are incredibly high in New Zealand. In fact, they are higher than anywhere else in the entire world! To protect ourselves against skin cancer, we need to be careful about how much time we spend in the sun. We have to be ‘Sunsmart.’

Read the SunSmart website.

On your blog, list five different things that we can do to protect ourselves from the sun this summer!
  1. Wear Sunscreen
  2. Wear a hat
  3. Put on a shirt/covering your body up
  4. Wear Sunglasses
  5. Stay in the shed

  1. Kumusta Lyan!

Well done on completing another two activities! :)

I agree. Spring through to summer is a lovely time to be in New Zealand. I had only considered the weather but you've made some really great points about the different holidays and celebrations that go on at that time. I really like New Years as well. What does your family do to celebrate the new year?

Those are some really great tips for being sun smart! Another tip I like to remember is to make sure you drink plenty of water. It's something we should do all year 'round, but it's especially important when we're out in the Sun because our bodies become dehydrated a lot quicker.

I hope you're having a wonderful summer holiday, Lyan :)

I look forward to reading more posts from you soon.

    Happy blogging!

    Mikey :)
